Tips for choosing the perfect broom handle

When it comes to choosing a broom, we often focus on the head and the bristles, but forget how important the handle is.

The right broom handle can make all the difference to cleaning efficiency, as well as your comfort while you’re sweeping or mopping the floors. So, here are some tips to help you choose the perfect broom handle.

Good grip

One of the most important aspects to consider when choosing a broom handle is material, or texturing, that makes it easier for you to grip it. Look for a non-slip handle that offers good grip, incorporates some kind of shape or knurling on the handle, or has a rubber or thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) coating. These materials provide better grip and stop the handle from slipping out of your hands, making sweeping safer and more comfortable.

Length

The length of the handle is another crucial factor to consider. You can choose between two types of handles: fixed and extendable. The most common sizes in Spain are 120 and 140cm, for fixed poles. Extendable brooms are a very good option, as they let you adapt the height of the broom to your needs. This is especially important if several family members are going to use it, as each person can adjust it to their height and needs. They’re also very practical, as you can use their extension to access more difficult or high-up areas. You can also store them more easily as, once folded, they usually take up a space around 80cm long.

Width for better comfort

The width of the handle also plays an important role when it comes to your comfort while sweeping. Choose a handle that fits comfortably in your hand. If it’s too thin, it can be uncomfortable and difficult to hold for long periods of time. On the other hand, a handle that’s too thick can be difficult to grip firmly. Find a balance, and choose a width that fits comfortably in your hand.

Broom head compatibility

Make sure that the handle can be securely attached to your broom head. It’s also important that the attachment system is robust and reliable, to stop the handle from coming loose while you’re cleaning.
