Each year, we use around five trillion single-use plastic bags. Every minute, we buy millions of plastic bottles. As a result, around 300 million tons of plastic waste is produced.

These are just some of the alarming statistics that have alerted us to the fact that we need to make our production and consumption patterns more sustainable. In this way, we can counteract our use of the products that harm the environment the most.

Our goal in joining SEALIVE

For this reason, Sp-Berner has decided to join the SEALIVE project: Strategies of circular economy and advanced, bio-based solutions to keep our lands and seas alive from plastics contamination. SEALIVE is a project that is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme. A total of 24 partners and 12 European countries will participate in it.

The initiative, which companies, industries and non-profit organizations will participate in, also includes specialist scientists from the plastics, recycling and biopolymer sectors.

The outcome of the project will be the validation of a total of eight final applications, including food packaging, cutlery and fishing nets.
